Matthew's First Father's Day

Today was Matthew's first Father's Day!! Since it was a special occasion, we walked down to the donut bakery down the street and got a donut each. After that we kicked back and watched the third round of the US Open. I originally made plans to go to the botanical gardens and bring a picnic, but after watching a bit of the open, going down to the golf range and hitting a bucket or two of balls sounded like a better plan.

When we got there we were both in the mood for a little light lunch. We took a seat on the outside seating area and waited and waited and waited. I finally went inside and asked for a little help (after all the other tables were being served). The woman said she would be right there...so we waited and waited and waited some more. Finally we got a little fed up and went inside the grill and took a seat inside. Waited some more and decided that this place obviously didn't want our business so we decided not to give it to them. Disclaimer: this isn't some posh Pasadena golf club, this is a adorable public course where folks wear jean shorts to play golf...so it definitely wasn't our appearance that was off-putting...I guess we forgot to take off our invisible cloaks).

The taste for hitting balls had run it's course so we hit a few balls on the putting green and went off to find another lunch place. We were in the mood for a little Texas hospitality so we went to our favorite Texas BBQ place, Barn Burner. For Father's Day, Barn Burner had an all-you-can-eat buffet...holy moly we pigged ourselves out on sweet tea and beef ribs...sooooo good. Matthew then decided he wanted to visit a bicycle co-op he'd been reading about. Since this isn't Austin, the usual hippies at typical bike co-op's were replaced with tattooed hipsters, but it was still fun...and makes us feel like we're part of a community.

Next we were off to the frisbee field so Matthew could play a little Ultimate Frisbee. Margaret loves the park but since we'd done so much running around, she skipped her usual nap and napped at the park instead.

Finally heading home, we stopped to get ice cream cones since we were still full from our Barn Burner lunch. We fed Lady G, gave her a bath and put her to bed...wow, what a day!!

Happy Father's Day, my love!!!!
