Shannon our Shannon

My best friend Shannon visited us last weekend...her last opportunity before she starts law school in the fall at Tulane. It was a quick trip and we tried to pack as much as we could into the days. Unfortunately, we were having too much fun and forgot to take pictures along the way, but here are the few we did get off. We had so much fun and already miss our aunt Shannon.

MJ...we miss ya so

We went down to Hollywood this afternoon to see if we could pay our respects to Michael Jackson by seeing his star on the Walk of Fame. We thought it would be pandemonium but to our surprise, it was pretty tame (all things considered). The day before I had my doctor's appointment at the same hospital where he passed away and there was only one media truck as we made our way inside. On Hollywood Blvd. there were many more trucks and a long line to see his star, but nothing really outlandish. Below are the pictures of his star and all the well wishers.

Grave's Disease

Yuckiness upon yuckiness I got diagnosed with new onset hyperthyroiditis (AKA Grave's Disease). The doctor said that it was more than likely brought on from my pregnancy because we have no family history. Right now we're just going to monitor it to see its progression or de-gression because I'm still breast feeding Lady G. Hopefully I won't have to go on any long term medical treatment...but who knows at this point. Below is a picture of me making a pouty face because of my diagnosis. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

Matthew's First Father's Day

Today was Matthew's first Father's Day!! Since it was a special occasion, we walked down to the donut bakery down the street and got a donut each. After that we kicked back and watched the third round of the US Open. I originally made plans to go to the botanical gardens and bring a picnic, but after watching a bit of the open, going down to the golf range and hitting a bucket or two of balls sounded like a better plan.

When we got there we were both in the mood for a little light lunch. We took a seat on the outside seating area and waited and waited and waited. I finally went inside and asked for a little help (after all the other tables were being served). The woman said she would be right there...so we waited and waited and waited some more. Finally we got a little fed up and went inside the grill and took a seat inside. Waited some more and decided that this place obviously didn't want our business so we decided not to give it to them. Disclaimer: this isn't some posh Pasadena golf club, this is a adorable public course where folks wear jean shorts to play golf...so it definitely wasn't our appearance that was off-putting...I guess we forgot to take off our invisible cloaks).

The taste for hitting balls had run it's course so we hit a few balls on the putting green and went off to find another lunch place. We were in the mood for a little Texas hospitality so we went to our favorite Texas BBQ place, Barn Burner. For Father's Day, Barn Burner had an all-you-can-eat buffet...holy moly we pigged ourselves out on sweet tea and beef ribs...sooooo good. Matthew then decided he wanted to visit a bicycle co-op he'd been reading about. Since this isn't Austin, the usual hippies at typical bike co-op's were replaced with tattooed hipsters, but it was still fun...and makes us feel like we're part of a community.

Next we were off to the frisbee field so Matthew could play a little Ultimate Frisbee. Margaret loves the park but since we'd done so much running around, she skipped her usual nap and napped at the park instead.

Finally heading home, we stopped to get ice cream cones since we were still full from our Barn Burner lunch. We fed Lady G, gave her a bath and put her to bed...wow, what a day!!

Happy Father's Day, my love!!!!

A Star is Born!

Lady G got cast in her second commercial (a State Farm spot). I brought the camera with me fully intending on taking pictures, but since I was also cast, there was little time to concentrate on work, take care of baby and play. Since she's past the 6 month mark, she can spend four hours on set, two in front of the camera...so we needed to get the shot and get it quickly. It was so nice working with my daughter on set...she's one of the most professional actors I've ever worked with...and she doesn't complain...man, she's good! We came home and played for a bit and since our swim class begins next week, I wanted to make certain her bathing suit still fits. I took these pictures and sure enough, G gave the most perfect 'starlet' poses...check it out!

Crawling...well...not yet

Lady G has decided that she wants to start crawling and through the grunts and groans manages to get up on all fours...and that's about it. Here's one of her attempts last week.

Fat Cat or Small Baby?

Margaret was working on her crawling skills this morning when Bishop decided (for the first time) that the little lady is someone she might enjoy cuddling with. After Lady G's several attempts at eating the enormous cat, Bishop thought differently and went away. I couldn't resist snapping a few shots, especially since the little lady is almost the size of our fat cat.

Hats, Lovely Hats!

One of Margaret's talented Grandmother's, Lula (aka, Margy) has made four super awesome hats for the little lady. And as you can see from the photos below, her little princess head was made for hats. Thank you so much, Lula!!

(two of the pictures are a little fuzzy, but it's hard to take a picture of a lady with so much to do!)
